Total Internal Reflection
« Back to Glossary Index

Where a ray of light meets with a medium with a refractive index lower than itself and is striking the interchange at an angle large enough to reflect the ray of light back into the medium from where the light came from rather than allowing the light to travel into the new medium. For example, when you look at an external window from an oblique angle and you see only the reflection of the outside world rather than being able to see through the glass.
