This month we stuck around in Costa Rica, but moved the roasting to Italy. Francesco Sanepo from Ditta Artigianale is roasting this month, taking care of “El Diamante”, a uniquely anaerobic processed coffee from Carlos Fernandez Morera, in the West Valley of Costa Rica. This is a super-cool and very exciting coffee, full of spice, sweetness, and apple pie.
August 2017 — Sonara Estate “La Olivia” from Sensory Lab
This month we head to Sonora Estate in Costa Rica, with a fantastic naturally processed Catuaí roasted here in Melbourne by Sensory Lab. Fruity and elegant, it’s a beautiful example of what naturals can offer.
July 2017 — Konga “Warqee #2” from Round Hill Roastery
This month we return to Ethiopia with a fantastic Konga roasted by Round Hill Roastery in Bath, England. Sourced from the Merkuria Washing Station, this is simply a delicious Ethiopian, full of fantastic flavour. You can also find out a little more about the team behind Round Hill here.

Meet Tim, Eddie, Oli, and Ben — not an alternate version of the Beatles, but you’d be forgiven for thinking that. There’s definitely something ‘Yellow Submarine-like’ about their branding and social media presence. And they’re just so English. They’re also the team behind Round Hill Roastery located in Bath, England, and the guest roaster for this month’s Superlatives. You can read a little more about the coffee they roasted for us here.
Superlatives: Manhattan Coffee Roasters
June’s Superlatives is brought to you by Manhattan Coffee Roasters, from Rotterdam in the Netherlands — a fresh-crop Kenyan from Kirinyaga. Esther Maasdam and Ben Morrow, the team behind Manhattan Coffee Roasters, have repeatedly shown their skills on the competition circuit. They’re now placing that same competitive spirit and drive for excellence into their new roasting venture. We had an opportunity to sit down for a chat and find out a little more about them.
June 2017 — Kirinyaga “Kii” Kenyan AA+, from Manhattan Coffee Roasters
This month we’re back to Kenya with an exciting SL28 & 34 from the Kii Factory in Kirinyaga County, roasted by the team behind Manhattan Coffee Roasters, Esther Maasdam and Ben Morrow.
September 2016 — Kenya “Kiriani” from Gardelli Specialty Coffee
This month we travel to Kenya by way of Italy, with the legendary Rubens Gardelli roasting for us. Packed full of flavour this is a delicious way to truly savour what Kenyan coffee is all about.

Where it all began: the inaugural Superlatives. An idea started as a thread on the Facebook Page, now grown into a subscription sent to over 900+ subscribers, in over 40+ countries.
November 2016 — El Zafario “Wush Wush” from Flight Coffee
This month we head to Wellington, New Zealand, with a Colombian rare varietal often referred to as the “Everyman’s Geisha”. Roasted with love and care by the team at Flight Coffee.
Superlatives: Five Elephant
Five Elephant is a specialty coffee micro roastery, bakery and cafe in Berlin, Germany. Passionate about quality, their goal is to source the best coffees in the world in a way that is both socially and environmentally responsible. We sat down for a chat with co-owner and founder Kris Schackman earlier this month.
May 2017 — Novo Canaã “Obatã” from Five Elephant
This month’s Superlatives is a Brasilian that you might find very different from most others — full of fruit and sugar cane sweetness, Obatã is another hybrid varietal that is distinctly unique, roasted by Five Elephant in Berlin.
